Q: Got any tips for getting the best Senior portraits?

A: CLOTHING

  • White or pastel colors are perfect for lighter backgrounds.
  • Casual outfits in earth tones work best for outdoor photographs.
  • Middle tones or deeper solid colors are ideal for formal portraits.
  • Avoid large prints, stripes or patterns that detract from your face.
  • Choose long sleeved shirts or sweaters rather than short sleeved.

HAIR

Wear a hairstyle you are comfortable with.

GLASSES

While glasses are a part of who you are, they may cause a glare that will be costly to remove. If at all possible, wear contacts the day of your photos.

Makeup and Groooming

Makeup should be natural and light.  Jewelry ie. necklaces, earings, etc. should be minimal and compliment your outfit.  Guys should be freshly shaven.

Q: Do you pay models for shoots?

A: Typically I do not pay models. If I have a specific project I'm shooting for, I offer it as a TFP or TFCD. If I'm shooting for a client, the client sets the rate of pay for the model.

Q: What is TFP or TFCD?

A: TFP means "Time for Pictures" or sometimes people call it "Trade For Pictures".  TFCD is as you might guess, a "Trade For CD".  What these mean is in exchange for each other's time, which is valuable to both of us, you agree to pose for me for a specific look or project and I agree to provide some images from that shoot.  If we're shooting TFP, I provide an 8x10 for every hour we shoot. Shoots typically last 3 hours.  If you're shooting TFCD I touch up between 5-10 images.  All images have my copyright notice on them. TFCD images are 72 DPI and 600 pixels on the largest side. They are suitable for online modeling portfolios.

After we shoot I put up a gallery of the best shots on my website within 48 hours.  You can pick your favorites. Allow up to 2 weeks for me to finish the images, depending on my workload.

Q: Do I have to sign anything?

A:  A copy of my release can be found here.

Q: What about a MUA?

A: I know some good MUA's in the area who have reasonable rates or may be willing to trade for images.  If you bring your own MUA I will make sure they have ample room to work.

Q:  Where can I learn more about being a model?

A:  The best resource I have found on the web is New Models.  It has tons of information and is easy to read.
